I like to create  a work that has history, a kind of painterly archeology of line, colour and texture

In this latest series of work, I spend a lot of time out in the countryside around where I live or am staying.I draw fast 10 - 20 minute works to get the shapes, marks and feel of the place down on paper then I repeat the same process with paint but putting colour blocks down looking for the underlying colour. I intensely observe the landscape.  I take these drawings and paintings back into my studio and translate them into mixed media paintings. They hold a memory of the landscape I was in, but are not necessarily representative of any one place.
